Frequently Asked Questions

about the flag football season

Basic Registration Questions

Is this for the fall season?

Yes, RedZone League runs in the fall from late August-October. We do not run a spring football league. We do run Camps & Clinics throughout the rest of the year.

When is the registration deadline?

The deadline to be guaranteed a spot in the 2020 is July 28th. We will accept registrations beyond July 28th if roster spots are unfilled. Once all teams have reached capacity, we will be unable take additional participants.

What is the cost?

The League registration fee is $106. There is a $10 early bird discount through June 15. There is a $10 late fee that applies after July 15.

Refund Policy: (updated 7/15)

If you choose to opt out of the season, we will refund 50% of the fee you paid (you were previously not entitled to a refund after July 15).

If the season must be canceled before it starts, you will be refunded 80% of what you paid. The other 20% will cover processing fees, adminstrative fees to process the refunds, and costs we've already incurred in preparation for the season such as insurance and some operating equipment.

If the season must be canceled after it has already begun, we will consider how far along we got and consider what a reasonable resolution would be.

What does the fee include?

  • Reversible NFL team jersey + flag set
  • 6 game regular season + bowl game or playoff

What are the age groups?

The league has three age divisions. All teams in each age division will be assigned to a Gold or Silver pool after the 2nd week of the season, and play competitively against teams within that pool for the rest of the season.

  • 1st-2nd
  • 3rd-4th
  • 5th-6th

How do you achieve cometitive balanced scheduling?

After 2-3 games, all teams in each age division will be assigned to a Gold or Silver pool. Teams will compete against other teams within their pool for the remainder of the regular and postseason.

Team & Roster Questions

How are teams/rosters picked?

Rosters are appointed by RedZone. We use geographically-based criteria when assigning who is on what team. We want participants playing with their current schoolmates or future teammates beyond elementary school. Factors such as school, hometown, age balance, previous team, registration date, and others are considered when making these decisions.

In some cases, where there are enough players for multiple teams from the same school, a coaches draft may be held to determine rosters pending RedZone approval.

Who are the coaches and how are they picked?

Coaches are volunteer parents. Coaches are required to attend a clinic, register with the league, subject to a background check, and pledge to our Code of Conduct. We recommend a head coach with youth coaching experience and/or football experience, although we provide a lot of resources to help all coaches in the league have the tools they need for a great season.

Practice Questions

When/where are the practices? Who will contact me about this?

Practices are scheduled by your coach. Your coach will make contact by or before August 15 to get your team's season started. Your coach will inform you when & where practice will occur or perhaps ask for your input in determining this.

How often are practices?

Practices should occur once or twice per week. Teams may practice three times per week in the preseason but should reduce that to 1 or 2 per week once games get started. Practice may begin once rosters are released.

  • Satellite Sites- You may have a game or two scheduled at a satellite playing location
